Nothing new, but there was a link to an interesting article by Thomas Ptacek (http://www.matasano.com/log/958/enough-with-the-rainbow-tables-what-you-need-to-know-about-secure-password-schemes/) which puts rainbow tables in perspective and gives a very good introduction to the various techniques that make them useless.
The Opthcrack liveCD looks nice and practical for quickly exploiting physically accessible Windows hosts - too bad that the rainbow table included is restricted to alphanumerical chars.
